I notify dispatch and the client immediately when there's delays. I share my location with them and the reason of the delay, and I'll give them a new ETA so everyone stays updated. Safety and clear communication comes first.

I notify dispatch and clients immediately when there are delays, I have to notify them. And then I would share my location, the reason why, and, you know, the reason why is this delay, and I would give them the new ETA, so everyone stays updated. Safety and clear that everything is good. Communications comes first.
I always plan my route effectively, always. And I always check my truck's GPS, and then I will check my traffic apps for restrictions and live traffic. What I do then is I would group my deliveries by area to save time and fuel. And I always map one backup route for my own safety. Like, for instance, I went to Bloemfontein to Johannesburg once, and there was an accident on the N1. So I took the R59 route that I had backed up, and I still delivered it on time, just because I had a backed-up route. So that's very important to me to have a backed-up route, always. That's for my own safety and to know that the delivery will be done on time.

I was delivering in the Free State, and one day I unexpectedly got to roadworks, and the traffic was heavy. So I checked for a detour on my phone. And then I just called my client. I updated them about the new ETA. I took the back road, and I drove safely there, and I still got my delivery done on time. That's why now I always, I always check the traffic before I leave.
