Position SummaryTexarkana College seeks a dedicated and experienced Aviation Maintenance Technician (A&P) Instructor todeliver high-quality instruction in our FAA Part 147 approved Aviation Maintenance Technician School. Thisposition plays a critical role in preparing the next generation of certified Airframe and Powerplant mechanics to meet the growing workforce needs of the aviation industry in the Tri-State region and beyond.The instructor will provide both classroom theory and hands-on laboratory/shop instruction aligned with the approved Part 147 curriculum and current FAA Airman Certification Standards (ACS). The successfulcandidate will foster a safety-first culture, support student success across diverse learner populations(including high school dual-enrollment, adult learners, and transitioning veterans), and contribute to theprogram’s expansion goals of significantly increasing enrollment, retention, and graduate placement rates.Essential Duties and Responsibilities• Instruction & Curriculum Delivery: Deliver comprehensive instruction in General, Airframe, andPowerplant subject areas using approved lesson plans, demonstrations, and practical projects that fullyalign with the FAA Part 147 curriculum and Airman Certification Standards.• Hands-On Training & Safety: Supervise and instruct students in the hangar and shop environment,modeling and enforcing strict safety protocols, tool accountability, FOD prevention, PPE usage, andprofessional maintenance practices.• Student Assessment & FAA Exam Preparation: Develop and administer written, oral, and practicalassessments; track student progress; and prepare students to successfully pass FAA Knowledge, Oral,and Practical examinations for A&P certification.• Compliance & Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate, auditable student records including attendance,competencies, project completion, and make-up time in accordance with FAA Part 147 requirements andcollege policy; support FAA inspections and audits.• Equipment & Facility Management: Maintain, organize, and inventory training aids, aircraft components,tools, equipment, and instructional materials; recommend upgrades or replacements to support programgrowth and currency with industry standards.• Student Support & Retention: Provide academic advising, mentoring, and support to promote highretention and completion rates; work proactively with students facing challenges to help them succeed.• Recruitment & Outreach: Participate in program recruitment activities, high school outreach, career fairs,veteran transition events (including SkillBridge partnerships), and industry engagement to supportenrollment growth targets.• Industry & Partnership Collaboration: Build and maintain relationships with local and regional aviationemployers, MROs, and partners to ensure curriculum relevance, facilitate internships, and support high jobplacement rates for graduates.• Professional Development & Continuous Improvement: Stay current with aviation technology,regulatory changes, and instructional best practices; participate in professional development and contribute to ongoing curriculum and program improvement initiatives.Minimum Qualifications• Current, valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic Certificate with no limitations.• High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of three (3) years of recent, documented hands-on aviationmaintenance experience in general aviation, commercial, military, Part 145 repair station, or equivalentenvironment. (Associate’s degree in Aviation Maintenance or related field strongly preferred; Bachelor’sdegree preferred.)• Demonstrated instructional, training, or mentoring experience (formal classroom teaching experience in aPart 147 program or vocational/technical education setting is strongly preferred).• Comprehensive knowledge of FAA regulations (14 CFR Parts 43, 65, and 147), maintenance procedures,inspection standards, and the current Airman Certification Standards (ACS).• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and engagingly to students with diverse backgrounds and experience levels.• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and willingness to learn collegestudent information systems and learning management platforms.• Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening (required for aviation safety-sensitive and educational positions).• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and physical capability to demonstrate maintenance tasks, lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in typical hangar/shop conditions (including occasionalwork at heights or in confined spaces).Preferred Qualifications• FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) certificate.• Five (5) or more years of progressive, recent aviation maintenance experience.• Prior successful teaching experience in an FAA Part 147 Aviation Maintenance Technician School orequivalent vocational program.• Experience instructing or mentoring adult learners, veterans (e.g., SkillBridge or similar transitionprograms), or high school students in career-technical pathways.• Familiarity with advanced technologies such as composite materials repair, turbine engine maintenance,glass cockpit avionics, or digital maintenance documentation systems.• Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is a plus for serving the regional community.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThe ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise across aircraft structures, systems, reciprocating and turbine powerplants, electrical systems, avionics, and inspection/repair procedures. Strong classroom and laboratory management skills, a genuine commitment to safety culture, and a student-centered approach to technical education are essential. The ability to adapt instruction to varied learning styles, manage multiple priorities in a growing program, and collaborate effectively with colleagues and industry partners is required.Work Environment and ScheduleThis position is based primarily at the Texarkana College Aviation Maintenance facility in a leased hangar atTexarkana Regional Airport. The role involves a combination of classroom instruction and extensive hands-on laboratory and shop work. Some evening or weekend hours may be required to accommodate programcohorts, make-up sessions, outreach events, or industry partnership activities. The position supports theprogram’s mission of expanding access to high-quality aviation maintenance training for students throughout the Tri-State region.Compensation and BenefitsSalary is commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications within the Texarkana College facultycompensation plan.
