Job description

A confidential California law firm is seeking a litigation associate (2 to 3 years) to join a focused practice handling maritime and transportation disputes, including insurance-related matters. This is a 100% litigation position suited to an attorney who wants hands-on responsibility, strong writing opportunities, and the chance to build subject-matter depth in a niche litigation area.

THE ROLE
Manage matters from inception through resolution, including trial and appeal as applicable.Draft pleadings, written discovery, and substantive motions; handle legal research and develop case strategy.Prepare for and participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, and other litigation events.Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and other stakeholders with professionalism and sound judgment.
LOCATION, SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION
Location:San Francisco Bay Area, California.
Schedule:Hybrid with an in-office expectation of 3 days per week; greater in-office emphasis during the first 3 to 6 months.
Compensation:$180,000 base salary.
REQUIREMENTS
Active California Bar admission (required).2 to 3 years of insurance defense and/or civil litigation experience; plaintiff-side experience will be considered.Proven ability to manage cases through key litigation milestones, including trial and appeal as applicable.Excellent legal writing and research skills; writing sample(s) required.Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
PREFERRED BACKGROUND
Interest in maritime law and transportation-related disputes, including cargo matters.Experience with marine insurance coverage litigation, maritime personal injury, or related maritime disputes.Interest in client relationship development and contributing to the growth of a specialized litigation practice.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Comprehensive benefits package, including 401(k) with profit sharing.Medical insurance (100% coverage for a Kaiser plan), plus dental and vision insurance.Bonus structure described as starting at $1,650; after approximately 18 months, strong performance can support bonuses in the $20,000 to $30,000 range.
