Job description
Tasks
- Lead art advising and skills development in collaboration with the STEP Skills Trainer, who reports on participants’ daily assessments and behavior.
- Defer to the trainer on behavior, health, and well-being; the trainer defers to the Art Advisor on artistic skills and development.
- Encourage each participant’s development, help them discover and focus their creative potential, and support their independent exploration and development of their own style.
Requirements
- Be a practicing artist with a BFA (MFA preferred)
- Have broad knowledge of classical, modern, and contemporary art and current trends, and appreciation for self-taught, outsider, and outlier art.
- Bring skills in diverse practices, including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and ceramics
- A willingness to research new techniques to support participants’ interests.
- Ideally have experience with adults with disabilities and/or diverse groups.
- Celebrate disability; work patiently and without prejudice with people with developmental, physical, or emotional differences.
