About the role

The Corporate Counsel, Construction role at ACCO Engineered Systems protects the business by identifying, administering, and managing legal matters, with a primary focus on construction law. The role provides professional and ethical guidance to minimize risks related to contract performance, claims, collections, and statutory remedies.

It collaborates with project managers, procurement teams, and external counsel on complex construction agreements, and supports corporate governance, board of directors, and entity management matters.

Responsibilities

• Advise project managers and internal teams on construction law, contract performance, and project delivery strategies.
• Supervise construction litigation and affirmative collection matters, use statutory remedies to preserve payment rights, and coordinate with outside counsel or claims consultants.
• Manage outside counsel selection, performance, billing efficiency, and alignment with litigation strategy as the construction law subject matter expert.
• Draft, review, and negotiate construction agreements, change orders, master agreements, and vendor contracts; develop and maintain standard forms and templates.
• Prepare briefing documents, legal research opinions, and discovery responses, and serve as the corporate representative at hearings, arbitrations, or trials.
• Support the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary with corporate governance, entity management, and Board of Directors and Committee materials.
• Use software to track, analyze, and report construction law metrics, develop KPIs to manage litigation budgets, and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
• Provide training on construction law matters and related legal topics.
