About the OpportunityOur client, an SEC-registered global investment firm founded in the mid-2010s that provides asset-based credit solutions to companies scaling through critical growth milestones, is seeking a Tax lead to own the full tax process for the management company, investment funds, and affiliated SPVs. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this newly created role will serve as the firm's sole dedicated tax professional — a hands-on seat well suited to someone who thrives in a small-team environment and wants the opportunity to build a function from the ground up. The firm operates in a highly dynamic setting with substantial deal volume and considerable structural variety, meaning no two transactions look alike. The role partners closely with external tax advisors and administrators while collaborating cross-functionally with accounting, legal, and investor relations, and offers meaningful scope to streamline processes, strengthen controls, and leverage technology in support of scalable growth. The firm is headquartered in New York with an additional office in London. This position is based in New York City and requires five days per week in-office.
Job ResponsibilitiesOwn the firm's global tax function, overseeing all tax processes for the management company, funds, and SPVs, partnering closely with the Director of Finance on evolving tax needsCoordinate and track U.S. and international tax compliance requirements, including federal, state, local, and foreign filings for partnerships, corporations, SPVs, and credit fund structuresManage external tax advisors and fund administrators to ensure timely and accurate preparation and review of K-1s and investor tax packages, tax returns (1065, 1120, and applicable non-U.S. filings), taxable income provisions, quarterly estimates and projections, estimated tax payments, and FATCA/CRS and global information reportingReview and prepare specialized filings and elections, including tax elections, FBAR, PTE filings, commercial rent tax, and entity formation documentationOversee and review tax accruals and support preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy of tax-related disclosuresPartner cross-functionally with Accounting, Legal, Investor Relations, Operations, Compliance, and Investment teams to streamline tax information flow, support transaction execution, and ensure platform-wide alignmentConduct tax structuring, planning, and modeling for onshore and offshore entities, new fund launches, investment structures, and complex financial instruments and productsDrive continuous improvement of the tax function, identifying opportunities to enhance processes, strengthen controls, leverage technology, and support scalable growthMaintain strong technical expertise on tax developments affecting private funds, credit products, and global investment structures; research technical tax positions and support special projectsManage competing priorities and deliverables while maintaining effective stakeholder communication and a high standard of accuracy and timeliness
Job RequirementsBachelor's degree or higher in a related field7–10 years of progressive tax experienceCPA designation strongly preferredExperience with private credit and loans, complex closed-end private fund structures with carried interest, and investment manager/GP tax considerations preferredFamiliarity with ECI tax considerations, loan origination, and season-and-sell structures a significant plusAdvanced proficiency in Excel and the Microsoft Office SuiteExceptional analytical, quantitative, organizational, time management, written, and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environmentSelf-starter who can work independently while contributing effectively within a team-oriented settingMeticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracyDemonstrated intellectual curiosity and creative problem-solving abilityHighly driven, resilient, and goal-oriented, with a commitment to continuous improvement and strong performance under pressure
The annual total compensation range is up to $300,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
