HIGH SCHOOL CHEMISTRY (11TH GRADE, 12TH GRADE, PLUS ADDITIONALSUBSTITIONS AS NEEDED)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS● Background in Chemistry and working with young people (Ages 6-18), with a strong preference for highschool aged children (14-18).● Ability to effectively communicate (written/verbal) in both English & Spanish● Willingness to learn and grow, perhaps in a new rolePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE● Two years teaching experience in elementary, middle, and/or high school levels.● Valid teaching certification/license (international or Honduran equivalent preferred (or in progress)● Experience implementing NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards).● Fluency in both English & Spanish● Evidence integrating digital tools, research skills, and innovate pedagogy into teaching and learning● Experience using Google Suite; Schoology; PowerSchool, and other Ed-tech toolsPROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES● Demonstrate punctuality, reliability, and professionalism in all aspects of work.● Know and follow AST’s Faculty Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Child Protection● Uphold ethical standards, confidentiality, and sound professional judgment.● Collaborative work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with students, staff, administrators, parents,and the community with multiple requests and concerns.● Partner with any teacher with whom a class is shared (i.e., Chemistry 12).● Reflect on teaching practice, seek feedback, and model a growth mindset for students.● Communicate regularly with parents and student learning, progress in clear, constructive ways.● Demonstrated ability to operate a computer, software, and necessary classroom technology (GoogleSuite), including use of technology platforms (PowerSchool, Schoology) to provide clear lesson plans,and updated feedback on student progress.● Support and communicate with other administrators and staff.● Respond in emergency situations.● Demonstrated ability to apply appropriate skills in performing daily routines.● Ability to develop effective and positive working relationships with students, staff, administrators,parents, and the community.● Maintain professional composure while dealing with a variety of personalities and situations.● Show initiative be a self-starter.● Effectively communicate and have interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers,supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive workdirection.
BASIC DESCRIPTION
The Chemistry teacher will ensure that high academic standards are set for and met by all students, byusing strategies of differentiated instruction. This teacher will plan and prepare well-structured lessons that alignto previously taught material. This teacher will promote AST core values while creating a classroom environmentthat is conducive to learning, while developing positive relationships with students and parents. As a school thatpositions all students for success, working with accommodation plans and Special Educators is also essential. Thisteacher will collaborate with department and divisional colleagues on curricular goals, while supporting eachother in lifelong learning as professionals.The Chemistry teacher should have a scientific skill set which encompasses the scientific theory, thetechnicals of chemistry, interrelated mathematical concepts, etc. The teacher should strike a balance betweenupholding a high academic standard while supporting each student’s individual growth and success.
