Interim Senior Director of Engineering

About the role

Genesis Consulting LLC is recruiting for a direct-hire executive role in Columbus, Ohio.

The role reports to the CTO, who retains ownership of technology strategy and the final succession decision.

Tasks

• Stabilize delivery - realistic commitments, clear ownership, early risk escalation, recovery plans for off-track work
• Assess the leadership team - each leader's ability to manage people, delivery, architecture, quality, modernization, and cross-team dependencies
• Coach leaders through actual work, with focused development plans
• Establish the engineering operating model - consistent SDLC, architecture, quality, release, and decision-making practices, aligned with product delivery
• Advance modernization - turn the CTO's strategy into a sequenced, accountable roadmap
• Recommend the permanent leader - the strongest internal candidate, remaining gaps, support structure, and transition plan, or a neutral recommendation for an external search
• Deliverables include a current-state assessment and leadership-assessment framework in the first 30 days; individual leader assessments, coaching plans, and a metrics baseline by 90 days; and a final, evidence-based succession recommendation.

Requirements

• Former VP of Engineering, Head of Engineering, or interim engineering executive
• A record of stabilizing delivery organizations
• Experience assessing and coaching engineering leaders - managers, architects, and QA leaders
• Strong software engineering and architecture background; modern SDLC/PDLC implementation
• Experience leading distributed onshore and offshore teams
• Public-sector or regulated-environment experience preferred
