Kennel Attendant

About the role

The Kennel Attendant provides compassionate care for shelter animals, treating them with kindness and respect while maintaining a clean, sanitary environment. The role also helps socialize animals to improve their comfort and adaptability.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain animal kennels, living areas, and general shelter spaces daily.
• Sanitize equipment, including carriers, leashes, brushes, and food and water bowls.
• Feed and water animals according to established protocols.
• Assist with animal intake and report health or behavior concerns to staff.
• Handle cleaning supplies safely and follow proper safety procedures.
• Help with laundry, dishes, and organizing storage areas.
• Represent the Humane Society of Wicomico County positively when interacting with staff, volunteers, and the public.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management or the Executive Director.

Requirements

• Enjoy working with dogs and cats.
• Read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Manually handle animals in a variety of situations, including large or strong animals.
• Work cooperatively with team members in all areas of the shelter.
• Stand for extended periods and lift and carry bags or boxes up to 40 lbs.
• Bench, squat, and perform physical tasks regularly.
• Be punctual, reliable, and responsible.
• Must be 18 or older to apply.
