Mainframe IMS Application DBA (IMS DBA Analyst)

About the role

Manage, maintain, and optimize IMS database environments in a high-availability enterprise setting.

Tasks

• Install, configure, maintain, and support IMS database environments.
• Administer Full Function, Fast Path, and HALDB databases.
• Perform database design, allocation, dataset management, REORGs, and space management.
• Manage DBD, PSB, ACB libraries, and the IMS Catalog.
• Execute IMS utilities, including Load/Unload, Image Copy, Reorganization, and Recovery.
• Perform database recovery, including Image Copy Recovery and Point-in-Time (PIT) Recovery.
• Troubleshoot database abends (Uxxx, S0Cxx), data corruption, and integrity issues.
• Monitor database performance and implement tuning and optimization strategies.
• Collaborate with application development, IMS system programming, and operations teams.

Requirements

• 7+ years of IMS DBA experience in an IBM z/OS environment.
• Strong experience with Sysplex Data Sharing.
• Hands-on expertise in Full Function, Fast Path, and HALDB databases.
• Knowledge of Secondary Indexing, Logical Relationships, Sparsing Routines (Assembler), Replication, Compression, and Encryption.
• Experience with IMS database utilities, backup/recovery, monitoring, and performance tuning.
• Proficiency in JCL, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, and REXX.
• Experience supporting batch and online IMS DB/DC environments.
• Familiarity with BMC IMS utilities and monitoring tools or equivalent.
