Job description

The Choral Assistant plays a vital role in supporting students, the Choral Director, and the overall choral program at The Carol Morgan School. Working collaboratively with the Choral Teacher and Arts Department, the Choral Assistant helps create an engaging, organized, and supportive learning environment where students can develop their vocal skills, musical knowledge, performance confidence, and appreciation for choral music.This position supports students in Grades 6–12 (Middle School and High School) by assisting with rehearsals, sectional practices, concerts, festivals, and other choral activities. The Choral Assistant serves as the primary piano accompanist for choirs and soloists during rehearsals, performances, and school events, while also supporting students in the development of vocal techniques, music literacy, and rehearsal skills under the guidance of the Choral Director.
Scope of Responsibilities:- Accompany choir or soloists on the piano during practice and concerts and any other school events put on by the choral department.- Assist students, under the director’s guidance, teaching them how to sing their parts in small sectional rehearsals.- Assist students, under the director’s guidance, by improving upon and attaining knowledge of rehearsal techniques through theory, practice and conducting skills.- Assist the director in passing out materials and in checking attendance, music, books, folders and pencils at the beginning and end of each class.- Assist in preparing, filing and making photocopies of any school materials.- Assist in responding to and creating contacts throughout the community in preparation for performances, festivals and other events.- Assist in public relations by contacting local newspapers, magazines and television stations in order to promote the performances and events of the choral program.- Assist in running errands on campus to various offices and locations in preparation for concerts, events or any other administrative aspect of the choral program.- Assist in the preparation, organization and participation in events in or out of the country.- Assist in requesting maintenance needs for the set-ups, breakdowns and decorating of concerts, rehearsals and events.- Assist in maintaining discipline in the classroom with the proper authority.- Assist in and perform any other duties assigned by the Choral Director or their Substitute in case of absence.
Qualifications & Skills- Proficiency in English & Spanish; additional language skills are a plus.- Minimum of a high school diploma required. An associate or bachelor’s degree in education, music, performing arts.- The ideal candidate possesses advanced piano performance and accompanying skills, as well as the ability to teach and coach students effectively in both individual and group settings.- Strong knowledge of music theory, score reading, choral repertoire, sight-singing, and vocal section work is essential.- This position requires excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, initiative, flexibility, and a passion for working with adolescents in a collaborative educational environment.
ScheduleMonday through Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (One day a week until 4 p.m. variable by school year).
