Job description

A confidential law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its Chicago-based workers' compensation defense practice. This is a litigation-focused role representing employers and insurers in workers' compensation matters, suited to an attorney who can step into an active docket and build strong, long-term client relationships.

THE ROLE
Defend employers and insurers in workers' compensation claims from intake through resolution.Manage an active litigation docket, including strategy, case evaluation, and ongoing client reporting.Draft and respond to pleadings, discovery, and motions.Prepare witnesses and evidence and handle appearances and hearings as required.Take and defend depositions and negotiate settlements to resolve claims efficiently.
LOCATION, SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION
Location:Chicago, Illinois
Schedule:In office five days per week initially; flexibility may be discussed after onboarding and demonstrated performance.
Compensation:A base salary of $115,000 is budgeted; final compensation is determined based on experience, track record, and productivity.
REQUIREMENTS
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.Illinois bar admission, or willingness and ability to become licensed promptly.At least 3 years of workers' compensation defense experience representing employers and/or insurers.Ability to start primarily on-site in Chicago.
PREFERRED BACKGROUND
Strong billable productivity track record.Strong professional references or reputation within the workers' compensation defense community.Demonstrated ability to manage files efficiently while maintaining responsive client communication.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Annual billable expectation: 1,900 to 2,100 hours (salary commensurate with experience and productivity).Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) with profit sharing; paid maternity leave; wellness program; employee assistance program; paid time off; and holidays.
