Successful candidates will conduct applications for research in the area of AI—technologies (machine vision), and NDT to assess infrastructure. The primary research focus is the condition and safety assessment of infrastructure, including reinforced concrete and steel structures, using non-destructive testing (NDT). Candidates will work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and researchers to develop innovative solutions that advance infrastructure assessment. Applicants with experience in NDT are strongly encouraged to apply.
Requirements
• An undergraduate, MASE, or Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Expertise in signal or image processing, including experience with AI / machine learning.
• Experience with NDT methods, including visual inspection, ultrasonic waves, and electromagnetic waves.
• Proficiency in software and programming tools such as Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar platforms.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English for daily communication.
Preferred qualifications
• Experience generating and manipulating NDT sensors or equipment, such as ultrasonic transducers, laser vibrometers, fiber-optic sensors, GPR, infrared sensors, or electromagnetic-wave antennas.
• Experience with numerical simulations of solid mechanics on a elastic waves using commercial software such as COMSOL, Abaqus, ANSYS, or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of construction materials and structural behavior.
• A publication record in NDT or structural health monitoring.
Duties and responsibilities
• Coordinating research projects, managing research activities and timelines, and delivering project outputs in accordance with established milestones.
• Planning, designing, and conducting laboratory and field experiments involving NDT of infrastructure materials and components.
• Preparing test specimens and experiment setups, including the installation, calibration, operation, and maintenance of sensors, data-acquisition systems, imaging equipment, and NDT instrumentation.
• Developing and implementing algorithms and software tools for data analysis, visualization, detection, condition assessment, and performance evaluation.
• Preparing technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, experimental summaries, progress reports, presentations, and other project documentation.
• Participating in the preparation of research grants, proposals, project literature reviews, budgets, progress reports, and contractual deliverables.
• Assisting in the organization and delivery of workshops, technical demonstrations, laboratory visits, and knowledge-transfer activities.
Application
All qualified individuals are encouraged to apply for this position. The candidates should send a detailed CV to Dr. Yeum () with the email subject “Position Application”. Before applying, please review the current research work ( or at the Centre) at about Civil Engineering. For applicants with the current work, please review the current research work ( or at the Centre). You may also ask for additional information from the applicant, including in the Winter 2027 or Spring 2027.
Dr. Yeum will review the applications and contact candidates who meet the criteria to arrange interviews. If you do not hear from us, it means your application did not progress to the interview stage. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to start the program in Winter 2027 or Spring 2027.
