Role OverviewWe are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Residential Interior Storage Designer to join our remote team. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in residential interior design, space planning, custom cabinetry, built-in furniture, millwork, and customized home storage solutions.This role focuses on designing functional, visually appealing storage solutions for residential interiors, including custom closets, walk-in wardrobes, dressing rooms, built-in cabinets, pantries, laundry rooms, mudrooms, entertainment centers, and other customized storage areas.The designer will develop creative design concepts, efficient space plans, detailed 2D layouts, 3D models, renderings, technical drawings, and material specifications. Designs must balance aesthetics, functionality, available space, client requirements, and practical manufacturing and installation considerations.The ideal candidate can translate project requirements, measurements, sketches, and design preferences into cohesive residential storage solutions while demonstrating a strong understanding of interior design principles, cabinetry, materials, finishes, construction methods, and production requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesResidential Storage Design: Develop customized storage solutions for closets, walk-in wardrobes, dressing rooms, bedrooms, home offices, pantries, laundry rooms, mudrooms, entertainment areas, garages, and other residential spaces.Interior Space Planning: Evaluate room dimensions, architectural features, layouts, and available space to create functional and aesthetically balanced storage designs.Custom Cabinetry & Built-In Design: Design built-in cabinets, shelving systems, wardrobes, drawers, entertainment units, display cabinets, and other customized residential storage features.2D & 3D Design Development: Prepare detailed floor plans, elevations, sections, 3D models, renderings, and design presentations to communicate proposed layouts and design concepts.Design Concept Development: Translate project requirements, sketches, measurements, and client preferences into customized interior storage designs that balance aesthetics, functionality, and budget.Storage Configuration: Develop practical configurations for shelving, drawers, hanging sections, shoe storage, cabinets, display areas, accessories, and specialty storage features.Material & Finish Selection: Recommend appropriate materials, colors, textures, laminates, wood finishes, hardware, accessories, and fittings based on the overall design concept, durability, and functionality.Interior Design Coordination: Ensure storage solutions complement the surrounding interior through thoughtful coordination of colors, finishes, proportions, architectural details, and design styles.Technical Drawing & Documentation: Prepare accurate technical drawings, elevations, dimensions, construction details, shop drawings, and material specifications for manufacturing and installation.Design Visualization: Create professional 3D renderings and visual presentations that clearly communicate layouts, cabinetry configurations, materials, finishes, proportions, and design details.Cabinetry & Construction Knowledge: Apply an understanding of cabinet construction, joinery, panel thicknesses, edge banding, clearances, hardware placement, and assembly methods.Manufacturing & Installation Feasibility: Ensure proposed designs are practical and account for construction methods, material limitations, CNC machining requirements, manufacturing capabilities, and installation conditions.Design Review & Quality Control: Review layouts, drawings, dimensions, material selections, and specifications for accuracy, consistency, completeness, and production readiness.Technical Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve design conflicts, measurement discrepancies, space-planning challenges, and construction limitations.Design Revisions: Update concepts, drawings, and specifications based on project changes, field measurements, client requirements, and feedback from internal teams.Cross-Team Coordination: Work closely with sales, production, and installation teams to clarify project requirements and ensure designs are properly prepared for manufacturing and installation.Design Standards & Process Improvement: Maintain consistent design quality, organized project documentation, and efficient design workflows.
QualificationsMust-HavesEducational Background: Degree or diploma in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, Industrial Design, Furniture Design, or a closely related field.Residential Interior Design Experience: Proven experience designing residential interiors, custom storage solutions, built-in cabinetry, wardrobes, closets, or similar interior projects.Custom Storage & Cabinetry Knowledge: Strong understanding of storage configurations, shelving systems, drawer layouts, hanging systems, cabinet components, materials, finishes, and hardware.Space Planning Expertise: Ability to evaluate room dimensions and create functional layouts that maximize available space while maintaining proper proportions, clearances, and accessibility.Design & Visualization Skills: Ability to create professional 2D layouts, 3D models, elevations, renderings, and design presentations.Technical Drawing Skills: Ability to prepare and interpret floor plans, elevations, sections, shop drawings, dimensions, and detailed construction specifications.Materials & Finishes Knowledge: Understanding of MDF, plywood, laminates, melamine, wood finishes, veneers, decorative materials, and cabinetry hardware.Cabinet Construction Knowledge: Familiarity with joinery, panel dimensions, edge banding, cabinet assembly, hardware installation, and manufacturing requirements.Interior Design Aesthetic: Strong understanding of residential interior design principles, color coordination, materials, textures, proportions, functionality, and contemporary design styles.Technical & Manufacturing Awareness: Understanding of how interior storage designs and technical drawings translate into actual production, CNC machining, assembly, and installation.Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify design challenges, resolve inconsistencies, and recommend practical solutions without compromising design quality or functionality.Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple design projects while maintaining accuracy and consistency.Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal English communication skills for design discussions, technical reviews, revisions, and remote team collaboration.Availability: Consistent availability during business hours for project coordination, design revisions, and timely communication.
Nice-to-HavesDirect experience with KCD Software, AutoCAD, SketchUp, 3ds Max, Revit, or other interior design and cabinetry software.Experience designing luxury residential interiors, custom closets, dressing rooms, built-in cabinetry, and premium storage systems.Background in residential interior design, custom cabinetry, millwork, furniture design, or interior construction.Experience producing photorealistic 3D renderings and client-facing design presentations.Familiarity with Zoho CRM.Knowledge of CNC cabinet manufacturing, production drawings, cut lists, and cabinetry manufacturing workflows.Experience coordinating with cabinetmakers, manufacturers, production teams, or installation crews.Experience developing interior design standards, material libraries, and project documentation.
Work Setup & SchedulePosition Type: Full-time, RemoteSchedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM ESTHourly Rate: $9.00–$11.00 per hourWork Setup: Fully remote, with consistent availability during Eastern Time business hours.
