Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Columbia City

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at 80/20 is responsible for the design, development, testing, and validation of mechanical systems and components. This role independently leads engineering projects, supports new product development initiatives, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet performance, quality, cost, and manufacturability requirements.

• develop innovative mechanical solutions from conceptual ideas through production implementation
• create detailed engineering drawings, 3D models, bills of materials, and supporting documentation
• evaluate technical and project requirements to ensure design feasibility and alignment with business objectives
• conduct research, analysis, and benchmarking to support product development activities
• present design concepts, technical recommendations, and project updates to management and stakeholders
• test, evaluate, and improve products through iterative design, prototyping, and validation processes
• prepare engineering reports, technical documentation, and design reviews
• support the development and enhancement of CAD modeling tools and customer design resources
• collaborate with marketing, sales, manufacturing, and engineering teams to drive successful product development outcomes

what you need to qualify

• bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, chemical engineering, computer engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution
• 8–12 years of mechanical design engineering experience
• proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar platforms
• strong understanding of GD&T, DFM, DFA, and root cause analysis methodologies
• deep knowledge of linear motion systems, including actuators, slides, conveyors, and motion control
