About the role
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at 80/20 is responsible for the design, development, testing, and validation of mechanical systems and components. The role independently leads engineering projects, supports new product development, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet performance, quality, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical solutions from conceptual ideas through production implementation.
- Create engineering drawings, 3D models, bills of materials, and supporting documentation.
- Evaluate technical and project requirements for design feasibility and alignment with business objectives.
- Conduct research, analysis, and benchmarking to support product development.
- Present design concepts, technical recommendations, and project updates to management and stakeholders.
- Test, evaluate, and improve products through iterative design, prototyping, and validation.
- Prepare engineering reports, technical documentation, and design reviews.
- Support the development and enhancement of CAD modeling tools and customer design resources.
- Collaborate with marketing, sales, manufacturing, and engineering teams on product development.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, chemical engineering, computer engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 8–12 years of mechanical design engineering experience.
- Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, DFM, DFA, and root cause analysis methodologies.
- Deep knowledge of linear motion systems, including actuators, slides, conveyors, and motion control.
