Job description
About the role
General Motors is seeking a Senior Prognostics Engineer- Low Voltage for the Low Voltage Infrastructure (LVI) team. The team develops systems and controls that generate, store, distribute, and manage low voltage power across the vehicle portfolio, supporting customer experience and vehicle reliability.
The role designs, validates, and deploys production-ready prognostic algorithms to predict and prevent low voltage failures. The work detects parasitic drains, assesses electrical system health, and enables timely service and customer interventions to reduce walk-home events and unnecessary warranty expense. Collaboration with systems, diagnostics, software, calibration, quality, and service teams turns vehicle data into scalable, field-proven algorithms.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy prognostic algorithms for low voltage components and parasitic drain detection in lithium ion batteries.
- Model low voltage system behavior and failure modes, and monitor degradation trends over vehicle life.
- Pilot and validate prognostic features in development and test fleets, then support production rollout.
- Work with diagnostics, service engineering, vehicle health management, analytics, and aftersales teams to integrate actionable prognostics outputs into tools and notifications.
- Analyze field data to evaluate alert effectiveness and tune thresholds and calibrations.
- Collaborate with architecture and safety teams to align prognostic strategies with system safety goals, ASIL targets, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop low voltage prognostics roadmaps and strategy across architectures, programs, and model years.
- Apply statistical analysis, anomaly detection, clustering, and signal processing to identify patterns in vehicle telemetry.
Key facts
- The role focuses on low voltage prognostic algorithms and parasitic drain detection.
- The work includes analyzing field data and tuning alert thresholds and calibrations.
- The team develops systems and controls for low voltage power across the vehicle portfolio.
