Senior Software Engineer - Remote - United States

About the Role

Koda North, on behalf of Edwin Collins, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and enhance reliable software systems for clients based in the United States. This full-time remote position requires an experienced engineer capable of owning complex features, backend services, APIs, databases, integrations, and production applications. The ideal candidate will make sound technical decisions, evaluate tradeoffs, improve existing systems, and guide projects from initial requirements through release and ongoing maintenance.

Strong fundamentals in software engineering, hands-on experience with modern web applications, and practical backend expertise in Python and Java are essential. The role demands building secure, maintainable, scalable, and practical systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and delivery of complex software features and systems
• Architect and implement reliable backend services, APIs, data models, and integrations
• Develop and maintain production web applications across backend and frontend layers
• Make informed technical decisions regarding scalability, security, reliability, and maintainability
• Translate business requirements into clear technical plans and production-ready solutions
• Enhance existing systems through refactoring, performance tuning, and architectural improvements
• Conduct code reviews, guide implementation quality, and elevate engineering standards
• Debug complex issues spanning application code, APIs, databases, infrastructure, and production logs
• Collaborate with product, design, engineering, and client-facing teams to define realistic delivery plans
• Support production releases, incident resolution, monitoring, and continuous system improvements
• Document key technical decisions, system behavior, and implementation details
• Identify technical risks early and recommend thoughtful, business-aware solutions

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in software engineering with strong fundamentals
• Proficiency in backend development using Python and Java
• Experience with modern web application development
• Ability to architect scalable, secure, and maintainable systems
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Compensation & Benefits

Annual salary of $110,000. This is a full-time remote opportunity based in the United States.
