About the RoleAs the Support and Learning Assistant, you will serve as the primary, empathetic point of contact for natural families (sending parents) in Costa Rica whose students are participating in study abroad experiences.You will work closely with our Manager and Coordinators to ensure high-quality operations, assist with hosting procedures (such as legal travel permits for minors), aid in crisis support when necessary, and contribute to educational workshops and volunteer trainings—all while maintaining AFS international quality standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesSending Family Care: Serve as the main contact for Costa Rican parents, delivering updates, answering inquiries, and providing compassionate guidance throughout their child’s exchange journey.Hosting Support & Travel Logistics: Lead and track administrative procedures for minor travel permits (permisos de salida del país) and assist coordinators with hosting cases and emergency situations.Departmental & Administrative Support: Assist the Manager with administrative tracking, scheduling, and reporting while maintaining accurate case records and insurance paperwork.Educational Workshops: Support the organization and execution of national orientations, volunteer trainings, and departmental workshops.
What We Are Looking ForEducation: Advanced student or recent graduate in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Education, or related fields.Languages: Intermediate to Advanced English proficiency (B1+/B2 minimum) for international coordination and system documentation.Skills: Strong emotional intelligence, exceptional active listening, top-notch organizational skills for legal paperwork, and proficiency in Google Workspace and MS Office.Experience: Entry-level (prior experience in customer service, volunteering, youth programs, or NGOs is a strong plus!).
