Job description
Job overview
We are seeking a Traveling OSP Construction Estimator for a full-time, on-site role based in Dallas, Texas. The Lead Estimator plans and prepares cost budgets, estimates, and bid submittal packages for outside plant (OSP) construction projects. You may also lead and delegate work to estimating team members supporting large proposals and requests for proposals.
Key responsibilities
- Follow safety protocols and help ensure estimating team members work safely.
- Review bid packages, project specifications, drawings, and related documents; attend pre-bid meetings to clarify project scope and requirements.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs, cost budgets, and estimates from project inception through bid submission.
- Identify project factors that may affect scope, costs, and competitive pricing.
- Assess value engineering opportunities to optimize project costs.
- Provide leadership and delegate work to estimating personnel and resources supporting large RFPs.
- Maintain thorough documentation and estimate-supporting data.
- Develop installation unit costs and labor productivity targets using projected site conditions and historical data.
- Compile material, equipment, and labor requirements; coordinate with suppliers and vendors to confirm pricing and availability.
- Review subcontractor quotes and proposals for completeness and compliance with project requirements.
- Help prepare proposal letters and other bid response materials.
- Conduct pre-bid and post-award reviews with internal teams, including project management, to clarify scope and support successful project transitions.
Qualifications
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret complex design drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency with arithmetic and formulas commonly used in construction estimating.
- Experience mentoring less-experienced estimating personnel.
