Accountant

About the role

Babia Ice & Produce is a fresh produce company supplying major U.S. retailers. It works across sourcing, logistics, and customer service to get fresh product from the field to store shelves. Babia is growing and is looking for a detail-oriented Accountant to strengthen its finance team.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounts payable and receivable, including vendor payments, customer invoicing, and collections follow-up.
• Reconcile bank, credit card, and intercompany accounts monthly.
• Support month-end and year-end close, journal entries, and accruals.
• Track and reconcile customer deductions, chargebacks, and retailer payment remittances.
• Maintain accurate records of grower and supplier settlements and freight costs.
• Prepare financial reports and analysis for the Controller and leadership.
• Assist with audits, sales tax, and tax filings in coordination with outside advisors.
• Help improve accounting processes and internal controls as the company scales.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 2–4 years of accounting experience; experience in produce, food distribution, or CPG is a strong plus.
• Solid knowledge of U.S. GAAP and full-cycle accounting.
• Strong Excel skills and experience with QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems.
• Experience handling retailer deductions, such as Walmart or HEB, is a plus.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred; medium-level English accepted.
• Organized, accurate, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
