Role OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled and forward-thinking Senior Cloud Engineer (SCE) for Application Modernization to join our enterprise cloud transformation team. In this role, you will be the driving force behind migrating, architecting, and modernizing legacy applications into cloud-native powerhouses on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Key ResponsibilitiesApplication Architecture & ModernizationDesign and implement cloud-native target architectures (Microservices, Event-Driven, Serverless) on GCP.Evaluate legacy application portfolios and define modernization roadmaps (Re-platforming, Refactoring, Re-architecting).Ensure applications are architected for high availability, fault tolerance, scalability, and strict security compliance.
Application Development & ADK IntegrationWrite clean, high-quality, and maintainable code to build or refactor core business applications.Leverage and standardize Application Development Kits (ADKs) and internal frameworks to accelerate developer productivity and ensure architectural consistency.Mentor development teams on cloud-native coding practices, 12-factor app principles, and API-first design (REST, gRPC).
DevOps & CI/CD AutomationDesign, build, and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to automate application deployment and infrastructure provisioning.Implement GitOps practices and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform.Containerize workloads using Docker and orchestrate them at scale utilizing Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
GCP Cloud EngineeringDeploy and manage core GCP services including GKE, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, Apigee, and Cloud Spanner/Cloud SQL.Implement advanced observability, logging, and tracing across modernized applications using GCP Cloud Monitoring and Cloud Logging.
Required Technical Skills & QualificationsCloud Platform: Hands-on expertise with Google Cloud Platform (GCP). GCP Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Cloud Developer certification is highly preferred.Application Development: Strong proficiency in modern programming languages such as Java (Spring Boot), Go, Python, or Node.js.Architecture Patterns: Deep understanding of Microservices, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), Event-Driven Architecture, and Serverless computing.DevOps & Tools: * CI/CD: Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Google Cloud Build.Containers: Docker, Kubernetes / GKE, and service meshes (e.g., Istio/Anthos Service Mesh).IaC: Advanced knowledge of Terraform.ADK & Frameworks: Experience establishing or heavily utilizing Application Development Kits, starter kits, or shared enterprise libraries to streamline development.Data & Integration: Experience with messaging systems (Kafka, GCP Pub/Sub) and relational/NoSQL databases in the cloud.
Soft Skills & Preferred ExperienceExperience: 6+ years in software engineering/architecture, with at least 3+ years focused specifically on cloud migrations and application modernization.Problem Solving: A proven track record of refactoring complex enterprise monolithic systems into distributed cloud systems.Collaboration: Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge the gap between pure development teams and infrastructure operations (DevOps culture).Agile Mindset: Comfortable operating in fast-paced, Agile/Scrum environments.
