JOB PURPOSE
The Automation Engineer II is responsible for developing, implementing, and improving automation and fixturing solutions for medical device manufacturing processes. The role independently leads projects involving automated equipment, smart fixtures, manual fixtures, robotics, PLCs, motion control, machine vision, and process automation, from concept and design through implementation, validation, and production support. The position works closely with R&D, Process Development, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and external suppliers to develop safe, reliable, scalable, and compliant manufacturing solutions that improve process capability, quality, productivity, throughput, ergonomics, and cost while meeting medical device regulatory and quality-system requirements.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, program, integrate, and troubleshoot automated manufacturing equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, robotics, motion control, vision, sensors, industrial communications, smart fixtures, and manual fixtures. Keeping keeping under control the budget/CAPEX.Support automation and fixture development projects from concept through design, prototyping, FAT/SAT, commissioning, qualification, and production implementation.Support process development, characterization, optimization, and validation through the design and implementation of smart and manual fixtures.Troubleshoot complex automation, equipment, smart fixture, and manual fixture issues; perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.Collaborate with R&D, Process Development, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and suppliers; establish automation and fixturing standards and maintain technical documentation.Developed processes, documentation and records, after production release assuring the manufacturing and quality regulations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline or related technical field.+3 years of experience in similar positions.Experience developing automated equipment and manufacturing fixtures.Experience in medical devices or other regulated industry.Fluent in spoken and written business English and Spanish.Critical Thinking/Analytical Skills.Proven competence in automatic control and industrial automation.Knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic and electrical systems.Experience with robotics, motion control, sensors and machine vision.Demonstrated ability to design smart and manual fixtures. Knowledge of engineering/design software and CAD (Solidworks).Knowledge of equipment commissioning, troubleshooting and validation.Promote continuous improvement.Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, or relevant PLC/robotics/vision certifications (desirable)
