Azure Data Architect

About the role

NLB Services is seeking an Azure Data Architect for a long-term contract in Panama City, Panama. The role focuses on cloud data platform design and modernizing legacy ETL workloads to lakehouse architectures. The architect will make design decisions with incomplete information, document them in an auditable manner, and provide technical support to up to 3 engineers or developers simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Analyze the production behavior of Alteryx workflows, SSIS packages, and SQL Server jobs to identify undocumented dependencies, historical patches, and implicit logic.
• Audit automated analysis agent reports against the original source and resolve discrepancies and blind spots.
• Define and formalize ingestion patterns, partitioning, data typing, naming conventions, scalability strategies, and security policies in Unity Catalog.
• Approve and formally respond to the plan.md before authorizing automated code generation.
• Resolve exceptions, business ambiguities, and limitations of the multi-agent system as the highest technical authority.
• Serve as the mandatory technical approver for pull requests to protected branches (preprod / main).

Requirements

• Experience in data engineering or architecture, including designing cloud data architectures rather than only implementing others' designs.
• Knowledge of Apache Spark in production environments.
• Experience providing technical leadership to other engineers or developers; formal direct reports are not required.
• Technical skills: Delta Lake, Apache Spark, PySpark, medallion architecture, lakehouse, data warehouse, SQL Server, T-SQL, SSIS, Azure, Azure DevOps, CI/CD, data modeling, data governance, and data lineage.
• Databricks is desirable.
