Cultimar Technologies, Inc. is an aquaculture biotechnology company focused on advancing sustainable and technologically innovative aquaculture systems for marine finfish production. The company was founded in 2024 by two PhDs with a strong interest in developing technologies that increase aquaculture production and adoption in the Americas. Since then, the company has raised $5M+ in funding from investors and operates a 30,000 ft2 research and hatchery facility in Puerto Rico, the first in the world to cultivate the Red Snapper. Position OverviewWe are seeking a capable and motivated Chemical Scientist and/or Engineer to lead the research and development of a novel chemical filter prototype that addresses off flavoring problems in aquaculture production. Cultimar Technologies has received an NSF Award to address this problem by developing the first continuous, off-flavor, removal system, utilizing known chemical and thermodynamic principles. The ideal candidate is a technical expert with capacity to independently investigate, identify, develop and optimize new methods/techniques to address critical project needs. Continuously seek to improve existing laboratory methods and processes. Read and adapt literature to accomplish assignments. Demonstrate mastery of broad range of experimental techniques and methods of data analysis. Key ResponsibilitiesIndependently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions. Understand the broad objectives of the project as well as their role in achieving those objectives, and modify experimental plan when required, to respondManage research budget and allocate resources efficientlyCoordinate and oversee the research project from inception to conclusionLearn, understand and master new experimental techniques, and act as a resource or mentor for othersInnovate and implement new experimental protocolsSet and meet experimental timelinesEffectively organize and present scientific plans and dataOversee the installation, maintenance, and lifecycle management of laboratory equipment. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure all instrumentation remains operational (e.g., managing repairs, calibrations, and routine servicing)Operate GC-MS and other analytical chemistry instrumentationManage critical administrative workflows outside the laboratory, including coordinating sample shipping and external testing, requesting manufacturing samples, and authoring and/or verifying technical documentation.
Qualifications & ExperienceMasters’s degree (or higher) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, or related field.Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute and interpret critical experiments to answer scientific questions.Demonstrated ability to learn, understand and master new experimental techniques.Ability to multitask and work within timelines.Proficient with GC-MS, LC‑MS and HPLC characterizing contaminants, solvent leachable, and complex water chemistry profiles.Knowledgeable in Solid‑Phase Microextraction and headspace analysis for the detection and quantification of volatile compoundsStrong capability in UV‑Vis spectrophotometry to rapidly assess water‑quality parameters and monitor filtration performance.Dynamic Execution & Time Management: Proven ability to successfully multitask, prioritize complex workflows, and deliver high-quality results against aggressive project timelines and annual strategic goals.Adaptability & Manufacturing Support: Demonstrated schedule flexibility and readiness to rapidly respond to unexpected manufacturing needs and time-sensitive operational challenges.
