Overall Responsibility:The Cloud Data Platform Administrator is responsible for administering, monitoring, securing, and optimizing the organization's cloud data platforms and database environments. This role combines SQL Server and cloud database administration with Microsoft Fabric platform administration, governance, operational support, and DevOps practices. The position ensures platform reliability, performance, security, scalability, and operational readiness while supporting Food For The Poor's cloud data modernization initiatives.The position plays a critical role in supporting Food For The Poor's data modernization and cloud transformation initiatives by providing leadership in platform operations, database administration, environment management, security controls, and governance practices. The Cloud Data Platform Administrator partners closely with Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, BI teams, application owners, and IT leadership to deliver secure, high-performing, and resilient data platforms that enable business intelligence, analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision making across the organization.
Duties:Database Administration & Platform Support Administer, monitor, and maintain SQL Server and AWS RDS database environments.Ensure high availability, performance, scalability, and reliability of enterprise databases.Perform database performance tuning, troubleshooting, indexing optimization, and query analysis.Manage backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes.Implement and maintain database security, auditing, and access control standards.Support database upgrades, patches, migrations, and maintenance activities.Troubleshoot and resolve database incidents and production issues.Develop and maintain operational procedures, standards, and technical documentation.Collaborate with application, BI, and Data Engineering teams to support business solutions.
Microsoft Fabric Administration Administer Microsoft Fabric capacities, workspaces, security groups, and tenant settings.Monitor platform utilization, storage consumption, and workload performance.Manage development, test, and production environments.Implement governance, security, access management, and operational controls.Support migration initiatives from legacy data platforms to Microsoft Fabric.Collaborate with Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, and business stakeholders to ensure platform reliability and scalability.Monitor compliance with platform standards and best practices.DevOps & Release Management Support Support GitHub repositories, source control processes, and branching strategies.Assist with CI/CD deployment processes across Fabric, Power BI, SQL, and analytics assets.Automate operational and administrative tasks using PowerShell, SQL, and cloud-native tools.Participate in change management, release reviews, and deployment activities.Maintain deployment procedures and environment documentation.
Education and Experience: Required:Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.Minimum of 5 years of experience administering SQL Server environments.Experience supporting cloud database platforms such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL, or similar technologies.Strong experience with SQL Server performance tuning, troubleshooting, backup, restore, and recovery processes.Experience implementing and supporting High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.Experience supporting Microsoft Fabric, Power BI Service, Azure Data Services, or modern cloud data platforms.Experience with source control systems and CI/CD concepts.Experience supporting security, governance, and operational compliance requirements.
Preferred:Microsoft Fabric administration experience.Experience managing Fabric capacities and workspace governance.Experience supporting enterprise analytics and data engineering environments.Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) concepts.Microsoft, AWS, Azure, SQL Server, or Fabric-related certifications.Experience supporting Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, and BI teams.
Skills:Advanced SQL Server administration and troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of cloud database operational practices. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Experience with monitoring, alerting, and operational support. Understanding of database security, governance, and compliance controls. Familiarity with PowerShell, SQL scripting, and automation tools.Knowledge of GitHub, source control, and release management practices. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent documentation and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively across technical and business teams.
