The institution focuses on holistic student development, combining strong academics with guidance and support for college readiness.Role Description The College Advisor is a full-time, on-site role based at Dorado Academy in Dorado. The person in this role supports students and families through the entire college planning process, including exploring postsecondary options, understanding admission requirements, and developing application timelines. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with students individually and in groups, guiding them in course selection, assisting with college essays and applications, and coordinating recommendation letters and transcripts. The College Advisor also provides information on scholarships and financial aid, organizes college visits and informational sessions, and collaborates with faculty and administration to support students’ academic and personal goals. The role includes maintaining accurate advising records, staying current with college admissions trends, and communicating regularly with families and relevant community partners.QualificationsDemonstrated expertise in College Applications, including guidance on essays, timelines, and admissions requirements.Strong Communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, families, faculty, and external institutions.Experience in Student Counseling and Academic Advising, supporting students’ educational planning and personal development.Knowledge of Student Financial Aid processes, including scholarships, grants, and loan options.Bachelor’s degree or Masters's degree in Education, Guidance Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.Minimum three years' experience working in a school setting or college advising environment, preferably in a college preparatory context.Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple students and deadlines simultaneously.Proficiency in English and Spanish: total bilingual ability written and spoken is required.Strong organizational and time-management skills, with comfort using student information systems and standard office software.
