Ashton School Vistacana is looking for a College & Career Counselor that leads the school’s comprehensive college and career readiness program, guiding students and families through the university application process and helping students discern postsecondary pathways aligned with their gifts, calling, and God’s purpose for their lives.
Key Responsibilities:
College Counseling & University Placement:Guide students and families through all aspects of the college application process.Develop and maintain a structured, grade-level college readiness program (Grades 7–12). Support students in identifying best-fit universities aligned with their academic, personal, and spiritual goals. Track and manage application submissions, deadlines, and outcomes. Build relationships with university admissions representatives. Organize college fairs, visits, and informational sessions. Manage documentation, transcripts, and reporting systems related to college applications. Use data to evaluate program effectiveness and improve outcomes.
Career Exploration & Readiness:Design and implement a career exploration program that helps students.Provide resources and guidance related to career pathways, including emerging fields and global trends. Organize career-related events such as guest speakers, panels, and workshops. Design and deliver a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate college and career readiness curriculum for grades 7–12.
Advanced Program Responsibilities:Serve as the primary advisor for students regarding AP. Oversee the school’s AP program, including coordination and communication of AP course offerings and enrollment processes.Support for AP teachers regarding program consistency and best practicesAdministration-related tasks connected to AP exams (in coordination with administration, as applicable)Assist students in developing long-term academic plans aligned with their interests, strengths, and post-secondary goalsDevelop and manage AP course sequencing guides and advanced coursework pathways.Establish and implement course placement timelines, student course selection processes, and an appeals framework.Collect, aggregate, and analyze student data profiles using multiple measures (grades, PSAT, literacy screeners, English proficiency measures, course prerequisites, conduct, and other academic indicators as appropriate) to inform placement decisions.Set agendas and coordinate AP placement committee meetings.Organize and lead student and parent informational sessions regarding AP expectations, benefits, timelines, and program requirements.Coordinate dual enrollment partnerships, including communication of requirements and collaboration with participating institutions.Support AP faculty through facilitation of professional development, curriculum alignment, and implementation of best practices.Champion the school’s vision for advancing and broadening the AP program by encouraging student participation and supporting students who express interest in challenging coursework.
Advisor for Student Leadership Programs:Provides leadership and oversight for the school’s NHS chapters, fostering a Christ-centered culture of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Mentors student members and officers, guiding them to model integrity, servant leadership, and spiritual maturity in alignment with the school’s mission and values.Coordinate the student selection process, planning and leading induction ceremonies, and organizing meaningful service initiatives that reflect biblical principles and community impact.Works collaboratively with faculty and administration to uphold high academic and character standards, while intentionally integrating opportunities for discipleship, reflection, and spiritual growth within NHS activities.
Profile Requirements:
Required Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree required (Education, Counseling, Psychology, or related field). Experience in college counseling, admissions, or secondary education. Strong understanding of university admissions processes (U.S. and/or international). English proficiency (advanced).Commitment to the mission and values of a Christian school.
Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in Counseling, Education, or related field preferred.Experience in program coordination or student leadership programs preferred.
