Position SummaryThe Director of Research & Development (R&D) will be responsible for leading the Company's product development and innovation strategy, overseeing the development of new products, and continuous improvement of existing products. This position directs laboratory operations, product commercialization, manufacturing process development, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure products meet quality, regulatory, operational, and business objectives. The Director provides leadership, technical expertise, and strategic direction to the R&D organization while fostering innovation and continuous improvement.
Essential Tasks, Duties, & ResponsibilitiesLead the development, reformulation, and commercialization of new and existing products.Direct laboratory operations and manage departmental priorities, resources, and technical personnel.Oversee product development from concept through commercial production, including formulation, stability, compatibility, pilot batches, scale-up, and manufacturing transfer.Provide technical leadership and resolve formulation and manufacturing challenges during product development and production.Develop, implement, and continuously improve laboratory procedures, documentation, and technical processes.Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to support product development and successful product launches.Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), quality standards, and internal procedures.Evaluate new raw materials, technologies, and industry trends to support innovation and continuous improvement.Review technical documentation, product specifications, ingredient listings, and regulatory compliance for domestic and international markets.Lead, mentor, and develop R&D personnel through coaching, performance management, and professional development.Perform other duties as assigned by leadership based on business needs.
Minimum QualificationsEducation & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline required; advanced degree preferred.Minimum of 10 years of progressive product development experience within a regulated manufacturing environment.Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience managing technical teams.Demonstrated experience leading products from concept through commercialization.
Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesStrong knowledge of product development, formulation science, manufacturing processes, and commercialization.Working knowledge of GMP, quality systems, and applicable domestic and international regulatory requirements.Proven leadership, project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Ability to manage multiple projects and lead cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard laboratory documentation systems.
