Event Communications Coordinator – IUCN World Protected and Conserved Areas Congress 2027
Every 10 years, the IUCN World Protected and Conserved Areas Congress (IUCN World PCA Congress) - formerly the World Parks Congress - is the premier global forum for establishing nature conservation agendas related to Protected and Conserved Areas.It aims to unite leaders from governments, civil society, Indigenous peoples, and the private sector to develop strategies for area-based conservation, climate resilience, and equitable governance.The event brings together several thousand participants for a 7-day programme. The next edition will be held in Panama City, Panama, from 4 to 10 September 2027.JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Event Communications Coordinator will coordinate communications for the IUCN World Protected and Conserved Areas Congress 2027.
The incumbent will report to the Senior Global Communications Manager (press and content) in the Global Communications Unit and work closely with the Global Convenings and Events Unit and functional reporting to the Regional Office for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean ORMACC. He/she will work closely with the Host country, the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA), external contractors and others across the Union to develop and coordinate effective communications and promotions before, during and after the event.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:BEFORE THE CONGRESS (9/2026 - 8/2027)•Act as operative focal point on communications for the event, liaise between Secretariat, Host country and WCPA•Oversee timeline and advise on preparations for the event•Keep relevant internal audiences updated on the progress, requests and status of event communications, including budget updates as required•Responsible for the production of all IUCN corporate event communications and marketing materials in the lead up to the event, in three official languages (English, French and Spanish), including:-Create website content (IUCN World PCA Congress website and IUCN.org), liaise with IUCN PCA Congress webmaster; work with the GCU team to pre-prepare as much content to be issued onsite as possible-Source photos and video for the event, sharing with team-Plan and implement newsletter marketing campaign for the event (draft editorial plan, source, create and issue content) – working with the Host country and WCPA-Handle translations•Support international, regional and national media relations – working with IUCN press officer and ORMACC Communications Coordinator.•Set up and start conducting monitoring and reporting, based on strategic goals of communications for the event•Help create the at-event communications plan•Share necessary information and documents in advance of the event with expanded communications team•Report on updates to ORMACC Regional Director Office and provide inputs for media relations as requested.DURING THE CONGRESS (4/9 – 10/9/2027)•Working with communications team, help implement communications plans so that participants have the information they need, external target audiences see the outcomes of the event as they happen and IUCN captures the photos, videos and highlights for follow-up communications•Lead on onsite event newsletter, liaise with PCA Congress webmaster to issue.•Help coordinate at-event expanded communications team as needed•Monitor KPIs and report on communications during the event•Support communications of PCA Congress outcomes.AFTER THE CONGRESS (9/2027- 10/2027)•Coordinate and implement post-event communications to retain participant engagement, capture and promote outcomes of the event, and to promote future events.•Lead on post-event report and lessons learnt document – gather analytics, draft report, finalise with team.•Participate in the event and assist the Global Communications Unit team across a wide variety of communications activities as required throughout duration of the contract.
