Ministry Function:The LAC Regional Agriculture Specialist supports the Ministry of Convoy of Hope by working under the leadership of the Regional Leader, LAC and supports the Global Food & Agriculture Specialist by assisting in the successful implementation of the LAC’s Regional Agriculture strategy of increasing food security by furthering family, community, school, and commercial farm projects in each of the region’s countries. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:1. Prepare a diagnosis to assess the implementation of agricultural initiatives.2. Raise an Initial and Final Agricultural Baseline that meets the requirements of the Convoy of Hope Monitoring and Evaluation System.3. Design, implement, monitor, and evaluate agricultural initiatives.4. Prepare the Methodological Training Plans for teachers, students, parents, pastors, community leaders, and agribusiness leaders related to agricultural initiatives.5. Design with participatory methodologies the implementation of agricultural initiatives. 6. Design basic and practical guides to agricultural initiatives for beneficiaries 7. Provide technical assistance to agricultural initiatives.8. Prepare reports of visits to agricultural initiatives according to the Convoy of Hope Monitoring and Evaluation System.9. Link technical assistance with increased food security through the improvement and measurement of food availability, accessibility, and affordability.10. Systematize the experiences of agricultural initiatives.11. Take care of the organizational needs of the program, including the maintenance of all program files, the preparation of data capture forms and the preparation of requested reports, etc.12. Assist the LAC Hub Leadership and the Global Food & Agriculture Specialist in all activities related to the region’s agricultural initiatives.13. Collect, organize and disseminate information material on the agricultural situation related to food security in Latin America & Caribbean and those topics of interest for the food initiatives program.14. Support the visit of volunteers and teams from the COH office in the United States.15. All other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:1. Bachelor’s or higher degree in agriculture studies.2. Knowledge and experience in soil analysis using portable kits: PH, salt concentration, electrical conductivity of the soil, and NPK.3. Knowledge and experience in animal husbandry primarily with poultry, sheep, goats, fish, and cattle.4. Proven field experience in farm programs linked to food security for both urban and rural environments.5. Knowledge of the countries within the LAC region and their national food security issues.6. Knowledge of different agriculture project types and scopes ranging from family farms to urban agriculture, food processing and preservation to agribusiness support and extension.7. Knowledge of organic and low-cost agriculture: organic fertilizer, pest control with organic insecticides, integrated pest management (IPM), animal husbandry, irrigation systems, production and storage of seed, production of commercial and professional farms, gardens, and orchards, soil and water conservation, agroforestry, and water harvesting.8. Experience in the design of participatory methodologies to facilitate agricultural education processes and the development of the local agriculture sector.9. Knowledge of the environment of non-governmental organizations working in food security and food programs at school and community level throughout the region.10. Knowledge of the agricultural context of each country within the LAC region.11. Ability and willingness to travel regionally and internationally as needed, estimated 60% 12. Have sufficient initiative and self-direction to work without constant supervision.13. Ability to perform multiple tasks and handle deadlines for work delivery.14. Excellent speaking, reading, and comprehension of English and Spanish languages for both conversational and technical vocabulary15. Experience with statistical analysis and data reporting programs16. Ability to effectively interact with team members, program initiative participants, and government and agricultural leaders.17. Ability to positively represent the ministry of Convoy of Hope, including its mission statement and core values, to all outside constituencies. Supervisory Responsibilities: This person has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
