Hands-on Engineering Manager — Distributed Systems at Scale

About the role

Dynamo builds a platform used by the largest Telcos in LATAM, Africa and Europe to communicate with users through automated campaigns and journeys over SMS, WhatsApp, RCS, email and SIM menus. The platform serves more than 500 million end users and handles millions of messages per day.

This role leads the engineering team while continuing to code and contributing to decisions with the CTO. The team works on scale, distributed systems and an AI layer to be built into the product.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 4: 2 fullstack, 1 infrastructure and 1 security, with room to grow.
• Write code in critical parts of the product and ship work.
• Turn business needs into plans by understanding and validating the problem, defining minimum scope, prototyping and estimating effort.
• Debate decisions with the CTO using solid reasoning.
• Drive the use of AI in the team's day-to-day work and in automated product decisions about who to contact, when and through which channel.

Requirements

• Be hands-on with coding today.
• Have led small teams up close, including one-on-ones, hiring and code review.
• Have experience with high-volume production and distributed systems, including incidents, queues and bottlenecks under load.
• Use AI in daily work and be able to describe how it changes your work.
• Work in English with international clients and vendors.

Stack: TypeScript and Node.js in a microservices architecture, some legacy PHP being migrated, Vue, RabbitMQ, Redis, MySQL, MongoDB, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, and coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor and Copilot.
