BASIC DESCRIPTION The Chemistry teacher will ensure that high academic standards are set for and met by all students, byusing strategies of differentiated instruction. This teacher will plan and prepare well-structured lessons that alignto previously taught material. This teacher will promote AST core values while creating a classroom environmentthat is conducive to learning, while developing positive relationships with students and parents. As a school thatpositions all students for success, working with accommodation plans and Special Educators is also essential. Thisteacher will collaborate with department and divisional colleagues on curricular goals, while supporting eachother in lifelong learning as professionals.The Chemistry teacher should have a scientific skill set which encompasses the scientific theory, thetechnicals of chemistry, interrelated mathematical concepts, etc. The teacher should strike a balance betweenupholding a high academic standard while supporting each student’s individual growth and success. AST has recruitment policies andrigorous operational procedures to ensure all adults working at AST are suitable to work safely with children, andunderstand their responsibilities to protect the students in the school’s care.Prior to making an offer of employment at AST, candidates are expected to complete a BackgroundInformation form, and provide at least three references. The reference-takers include specific confirmation that thereferee has no knowledge of inappropriate behavior regarding child-protection. The candidate must disclose anycriminal offenses and / or involvement in disciplinary procedures related to child protection. Additional criminalbackground checks may be required, depending on the specific role (teacher, volunteer, contractor).All AST personnel must undergo child safeguarding awareness training including periodic updates andinformation sessions.
