Java Support Engineer

About the role

Apexon seeks a Java Support Engineer with a bachelor's degree and software development experience. The role supports application health, stability, and performance.

Responsibilities

• Work with team members to analyze and resolve application issues.
• Identify defects, discrepancies, and trends through code debugging or log analysis.
• Manage incidents and communicate with users, application owners, and senior stakeholders.
• Observe patterns and recurring issues, and advise application owners on permanent fixes to improve application stability and performance.
• Use tools developed by the AppBank Engineering team to automate failures using machine learning techniques, notify discrepancies in production health, and automate health restoration, with continuous measurement of risk and cost.
• Identify alerts and processes that can be automated, and work with the AppBank Engineering team on automation.
• Challenge existing application setup and processing, and suggest ways to solve problems or improve stability.
• Participate in change management to help manage production risk.
• Build and improve run books for generalists to minimize operational errors and improve fungibility and efficiency.
• Develop reports with trending statistics to track application health and support service performance.
• Learn and troubleshoot proprietary technologies; knowledge of these technologies is not required before hire.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (U.S. or equivalent) and software development experience.
• Top skills: Java, SQL, Unix, strong communication skills, and support knowledge.
• Practical use of computer science data structures concepts.
• Problem-solving experience in a development or production environment, including observing patterns, analyzing root causes, and suggesting solutions.
