Lead Data Engineer

About the role

HCLTech is looking for a Lead Data Engineer to define data engineering standards, build reusable patterns, mentor engineers, support hiring and onboarding, review solution designs, and promote consistent engineering maturity across data teams.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the design, development, and optimization of scalable data platforms, pipelines, Lakehouse solutions, and analytics-ready datasets using technologies such as Python, Databricks, Snowflake, and cloud platforms.
• Govern standards for architecture, coding practices, data quality, security, metadata management, lineage, observability, automation, CI/CD, and cost optimization.
• Lead the Data Engineering chapter by creating capability frameworks, skill development roadmaps, and onboarding programs, and mentoring engineers across experience levels.
• Support hiring, capability assessments, performance management, succession planning, and career development while fostering continuous learning, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• Expertise in Python, data modeling, ETL/ELT design, batch and incremental pipelines, and scalable data architecture for enterprise data platforms.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure, Databricks, Spark, Snowflake, and BI platforms such as Power BI or Tableau.
• Knowledge of data quality, metadata management, lineage, security, privacy, compliance, observability, and DataOps/CI/CD practices.
• Technical leadership and data engineering governance skills, including the ability to lead and mentor engineers, establish technical standards, and conduct design reviews.
