Bilingual Legal SecretaryWe are looking for a highly organized, empathetic, and fully bilingual Legal Secretary to join our fast-paced practice. In this role you will be the first point of contact for our clients and a vital source of support for our attorneys across both immigration and criminal law matters.The right person communicates clearly, has sharp attention to detail, and can move easily between English and Spanish in real time. Just as important, they bring patience and genuine care to clients who are often going through some of the hardest moments of their lives.
What you will doLegal documentation and case managementPrepare, assemble, and file immigration applications, with a heavy focus on asylum cases and change of status petitions, making sure all supporting exhibits are accurately translated and organized.Draft, format, and file standard criminal defense documents, including notices of appearance, motions, and discovery requests.Keep both physical and digital client files organized, current, and compliant with firm standards.Client relations and communicationConduct initial screenings and intakes for new clients, gathering background information, explaining how the firm works, and helping open new case files.Reach out to clients proactively with case updates, reminders about court dates and appointments, and requests for any missing documents.Serve as a steady, compassionate point of contact between attorneys and clients navigating high-stress situations.Language servicesProvide accurate, real-time oral interpretation during attorney-client meetings, phone calls, and interview preparation.Translate client communications, personal statements, and vital records between Spanish and English as needed.
What we are looking forNative or bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, written and verbal. This one is non-negotiable.Previous experience as a legal secretary, legal assistant, or paralegal preferred. Immigration or criminal law experience is a major plus.Exceptional empathy, patience, and professionalism with people in distress.Strong attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Comfort with legal case management software (such as Clio or MyCase), Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat.
