Primary ResponsibilitiesThe Mold Design Engineer is responsible for designing molds, tooling, fixtures, and related components using 3D and 2D CAD software. This position supports customer projects from concept through final design, manufacturing, sampling, and tool approval.Primary responsibilities include:Design injection molds, compression molds, transfer molds, fixtures, and tooling components. Review customer part models, prints, and specifications. Participate in DFM reviews and identify manufacturability concerns. Apply proper shrink, draft, parting lines, gate locations, venting, cooling, ejection, and mold construction methods. Create complete mold designs, assemblies, details, and bills of material. Support tool builds by answering shop questions and resolving design issues. Communicate with customers, vendors, sales, production, and management. Maintain design documentation and revision control. Support mold sampling, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. Leadership ResponsibilitiesProvide technical direction on mold design and tooling questions. Support design standards and best practices. Assist with training less-experienced designers or engineers. Help lead design reviews and communicate technical risks clearly. Job RequirementsEducationDegree in mechanical engineering, tool design, manufacturing engineering, or equivalent work experience preferred. Mold design experience may be accepted in place of formal education. Skills & Relevant Work ExperienceExperienceMold design experience required. Experience with injection molding, compression molding, or thermoset tooling preferred. CAD experience required. Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong knowledge of mold construction and molding principles. Proficiency in 3D and 2D CAD. Ability to read customer part prints and understand GD&T. Knowledge of plastic materials, shrink, venting, cooling, ejection, and gating. Strong problem-solving and communication skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects. Physical RequirementsMust be able to sit and work at a computer for extended periods. Must be able to walk through shop and production areas. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Must be able to safely work around molds, machines, and production equipment. TravelMinimal travel required. Occasional customer, vendor, or supplier visits may be required.Equal Opportunity Employer
