MOLD DESIGN ENGINEERLocation: SKF Planta Zapopan, JaliscoReports to: PTD ManagerArea: Product & Technology Development (PTD)
Role Summary:The Mold Design Engineer develops robust injection and compression mold tooling solutions from early feasibility and RFQ support through prototyping, PPAP, production launch, and the full production life cycle. The role combines hands-on mechanical design, manufacturability analysis, technical problem-solving, supplier collaboration, and cross-functional project coordination to deliver safe, cost-effective, high-quality tooling solutions.
Key Responsibilities:Create and approve mold, tooling, and mechanical drawings using Creo.Develop concept layouts and robust tooling designs for injection and compression molding.Apply CAD, CAE, PLM, SimPro, GD&T, DFSS, and engineering calculations to confirm manufacturability.Identify and resolve risks involving product geometry, mold geometry, materials, and manufacturing processes.Create, approve, release, and maintain CAD data sets, CAE reports, design standards, and engineering changes.
Project & Operational SupportSupport RFQs, feasibility reviews, prototypes, PPAP, production launch, and production troubleshooting.Coordinate R&D, Manufacturing, Prototype Fabrication, Quality, STA, suppliers, and other cross-functional partners.Manage design schedules, action items, technical documentation, project cost considerations, and lessons learned.Support tooling suppliers and manufacturing sites with technical reviews and corrective solutions.Coach technicians and interns and contribute to work instructions, procedures, quality systems, and EHS compliance.
Candidate Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent education may be considered with demonstrated expertise.Minimum 2-3 years of experience in tooling design.Ability to read, interpret, and create mechanical drawings.Working knowledge of GD&T and applicable ISO/ASME standards.Advanced English and effective technical communication skills.Mold design experience in elastomer, rubber, plastics, or high-performance polymer applications.Knowledge of injection and compression molding processes.Experience with aluminum die casting or a comparable tooling environment.Experience supporting suppliers, PPAP, PFMEA, prototypes, and production launches.Creo and WindchillCAD, CAE, and PLM systemsSimPro or comparable engineering calculation toolsDFSS methodsOffice 365Engineering change and document-control workflowsEngineering judgment, Problem-solving, Collaboration, Project ownership, Communication,Continuous improvement, Safety and quality mindset
