Packaging Development Engineer

Position OverviewOur client is seeking a Packaging Development Engineer to lead the development and commercialization of innovative packaging solutions across their product portfolio.This individual will own the complete packaging development lifecycle, from concept through launch, ensuring all packaging meets the highest standards for quality, functionality, sustainability, and brand aesthetics. The ideal candidate combines strong engineering expertise with excellent project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.Experience in beauty, personal care, cosmetics, or consumer packaged goods (CPG) environments is highly preferred. Startup or high-growth company experience is a significant advantage.
Key Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end packaging development projects from concept to commercialization.Review and approve technical drawings and specifications for packaging components.Partner with suppliers to initiate and manage packaging development programs.Evaluate formula compatibility and select optimal packaging solutions.Design and oversee compatibility, functionality, and transit testing.Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies throughout development.Lead manufacturing line trials and troubleshoot packaging-related issues.Drive packaging innovation, sustainability initiatives, and cost optimization efforts.Serve as the primary technical packaging expert for internal stakeholders and external suppliers.Manage artwork approvals and packaging color development processes.Maintain accurate component and finished goods specifications databases.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or a related technical field.4+ years of packaging development experience within Beauty, Personal Care, Cosmetics, or CPG industries.Strong knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and sustainability principles.Experience managing packaging projects from concept through commercialization.Hands-on experience with compatibility, functionality, and transit testing.Ability to review technical drawings and create detailed packaging specifications.Excellent communication, project management, and problem-solving skills.Experience working in startup or high-growth environments is strongly preferred.
