SAT Prep Math Verbal Facilitator

Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a public service organization committed to supporting academic achievement and college access for students in the Philadelphia area. Through its College & Career Readiness Committee, the chapter provides programs that help high school students prepare for postsecondary education and develop essential life skills. The SAT Prep initiative focuses on strengthening students’ math and verbal skills to improve performance on standardized tests. Facilitators collaborate with volunteers, educators, and community partners to deliver high-quality instruction in a supportive environment. The chapter values equity, inclusion, and empowering young people to reach their educational goals.
Role Description The SAT Prep Math & Verbal Facilitator is a temporary, on-site role based in Philadelphia, PA. The facilitator leads small-group and whole-group instructional sessions focused on SAT Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, using curriculum materials provided by the committee and supplemental resources they identify. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning lessons, delivering engaging instruction, modeling test-taking strategies, assigning practice work, and reviewing students’ progress to adjust teaching approaches. The facilitator maintains a positive, inclusive classroom environment, provides individual support, and communicates regularly with program coordinators about attendance, student needs, and outcomes. The role also involves administering practice tests, tracking results, and helping students build confidence and readiness for the SAT within the program’s scheduled timeframe.
Facilitators will be trained to lead math or verbal classes.
If selected, the facilitator must attend orientation/training and complete Risk Management Training. Facilitators will receive a $600 stipend* at the conclusion of the 8-week workshop (Saturday, September 26-Saturday, November 21, 2026).
*In order to receive the full stipend, Facilitators must complete the following:Mandatory Facilitator Orientation/Training on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026Five consecutive weeks of Full Day (8:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m) instruction (Oct. 10-Nov 7)Mandatory Mid-Term Facilitator Check-in during Week 4 Proctor and Score completed Pre-tests (Week 1: Sept 26) and Post-tests (Week 7: Nov 14)
QualificationsDemonstrated proficiency in SAT-level Math, including algebra, problem-solving, and data analysis, with the ability to explain concepts clearly to diverse learners.Strong command of verbal skills, including critical reading, vocabulary in context, grammar, and evidence-based writing, relevant to SAT preparation.Experience teaching, tutoring, or facilitating academic programs for high school students, preferably in test preparation or college readiness settings.Ability to design or adapt lesson plans, use instructional materials effectively, and incorporate practice questions and full-length exams into sessions.Excellent classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful learning environment.Comfort working on-site in a community or school setting in Philadelphia, PA, and collaborating with volunteers, staff, and families.Strong organizational skills, including reliable time management, attendance tracking, and basic data recording for student performance.Bachelor’s degree in education, mathematics, English, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience in SAT or standardized test instruction considered.Awareness of equity and access issues in education and a demonstrated commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds.Ability to pass any required background checks and comply with organizational policies and youth protection guidelines.
Mandatory Risk Management Training will be required after acceptance, which will include obtaining a Child Abuse and Criminal Check. *The available dates for Risk Management training are Thursday, August 20, 2026 and Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
