About the Role
We're growing our Finance team and looking for a sharp, analytical Staff Accountant based in Mexico City. You'll own core day-to-day accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and record-keeping, while partnering closely with our US-based finance function. This is a hands-on role with real scope to shape processes as we scale, ideal for an accountant who is as comfortable in a bank reconciliation as they are in a pivot table. This position reports directly to our VP of Finance.
Location: Remote, but must be based in or around Mexico City, MexicoType: Full-time independent contractor (honorarios) · Experienced hire (mid career; not entry-level)
What You'll Do
Maintain accurate and complete accounting records across our US and Mexico entitiesPerform monthly bank reconciliations and reconcile general ledger accounts, investigating and resolving discrepanciesPrepare and post journal entries and support the month-end and year-end closeManage day-to-day transactions in our accounting software (A/P, A/R, general ledger)Build, clean, and analyze data in Excel and other database/reporting tools to support financial reporting and ad-hoc analysisPrepare supporting schedules and analytical reports for management and auditsHelp document, standardize, and improve accounting processes as the company growsCollaborate across borders with finance, operations, and leadership
What You'll Bring (Must-Haves)
Degree in Accounting (Contaduría Pública)Advanced Excel and strong comfort working with large datasets / database toolsStrong analytical skills and attention to detailHands-on experience with accounting software, bank reconciliations, and accounting record-keepingAdvanced English (written and verbal) since you'll interact with US teams dailyAdaptability - you're energized by a fast-paced, ever-changing environment and can juggle multiple priorities independently
Nice to Have
Experience at a U.S. startup, scale-up, or other fast-moving/high-growth companyExposure to US GAAP (no prior US accounting knowledge required, we'll train)Experience with QuickBooks, QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, SAP, or similar ERP/accounting platformsFamiliarity with SQL, Power BI, or other data/BI tools a plus
