Job Summary:
The Student Advisor provides academic advisement and develops educational plan options for students across all programs; conducts student meetings and keeps accurate records; answers and responds to student email and telephone queries; explains and offers guidance on programs of study; processes and approves specially scheduled exams and challenge exams; provides referrals for academic and non-academic support; monitors student attendance and communicates with at-risk students; conducts admissions qualification reviews, transfer credit evaluations, and interviews; helps coordinate comprehensive exams and new student orientation; and attends appropriate department and general staff meetings.
Essential Functions:Primary:Provide advising and academic planning for students across all programs. This includes developing academic plans, assisting with course registration, reviewing requests for schedule modifications, creating remedial course plans for students experiencing academic difficulties, and collaborating with other departments as needed to resolve student concerns and support student success.Conduct student meetings (by appointment) by phone/videocall and keep accurate records.Address issues of student wellness, including referring students to the Student Resource Services for personal counseling.Monitors student attendance and communicates with at-risk students.Be familiar with state and national requirements for licensure and be able to communicate these requirements or refer students as needed.Conduct degree audits for licensing exams, comprehensive exams, clinical progression, and graduation.Assist in the coordination of new student orientation and other student services events.Assist in student retention initiatives.Attend and participate in various committees, including the Student Success Committee, Curriculum Advisory Committee, and Department Chair meetings.Develop strong collaborations with other administrative departments including, but not limited to, Registrar, Admissions, and Financial Aid.Other duties as assigned
Education and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree in psychology, education, counseling, or another related field preferred.A minimum of 2 to 3 years of work or educational experience; preferably in higher education.Strong communication, presentation and organizational skills.Excellent customer service skills and experience working with diverse populations.Ability to manage confidential records in a discrete and professional manner.Ability to multitask and meet deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail.Ability to work independently and collaboratively to support the success of others.Strong computer skills and ability to use various databases.Strong commitment to the vision of the College and the success of its students.
