Summary

Rowan‑Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine invites applications for a Chair of the Department of Medicine, a leadership role ideal for a physician‑educator who thrives in a collaborative, outpatient‑focused environment and enjoys developing faculty, strengthening clinical programs, and shaping the future of osteopathic medical education.

This role oversees a small, multi‑specialty faculty group (fewer than 20 clinicians) across General Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Infectious Disease, and Pulmonary Medicine. This role does not oversee inpatient services. The Chair works closely with supportive institutional leadership to advance high‑quality patient care, teaching, and scholarship.

Essential Duties Will Include

Department Leadership

Provide vision, direction, and mentorship to a small, multi‑specialty faculty team.Foster a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement.Advocate for departmental needs and represent Medicine within school leadership forums.Support faculty development, promotion pathways, and recruitment of mission‑aligned clinicians.

Clinical Oversight

Oversee ambulatory clinical operations across primary and specialty care sites. This role does not oversee inpatient services. Partner with other department chairs to strengthen quality, safety, and patient experience.Grow outpatient clinical programs in alignment with community needs and Rowan Medicine strategy.Ensure compliance with ethical practice standards, billing requirements, and regulatory expectations.Strong administrative support is provided through Rowan Medicine operations and a departmental business administrator, allowing the Chair to focus on quality, faculty development, and program growth.

Academic Leadership

Support faculty engagement in teaching medical students and residents.Ensure appropriate faculty effort and oversight for educational programs.Encourage scholarly activity suited to faculty interests and departmental capacity.Promote collaborative research opportunities across departments and schools.

Strategic & Organizational Development

Participate in strategic planning for clinical growth and academic innovation.Promote quality improvement initiatives and patient‑centered service enhancements.

Administrative Responsibilities

Manage departmental budget and resource allocation.Oversee grant‑funded programs and support faculty pursuing extramural funding.Direct and facilitate the recruitment, retention, and professional development of high‑quality faculty and staff, ensuring the department remains a strong, mission‑aligned team.Conduct timely performance evaluations and support faculty/staff professional growth.Serve on committees and task forces as appointed.

Qualifications

D.O. or M.D. with AOA or ABMS Board Certification in Internal Medicine.Demonstrated leadership experience in clinical, academic, or administrative roles.Evidence of excellence in teaching, clinical practice, and/or scholarly activity.Experience with grants or funded projects preferred.Academic credentials qualifying for Associate Professor or Professor.Must hold: NJ Medical License, CDS, DEA.

Compensation & Benefits

In compliance with the State of New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this faculty position is $265,000 – $315,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
