Job description
Position Summary
The Construction Manager / Lead Construction Manager serves as the Owner's representative responsible for overseeing construction execution, contractor performance, field safety, quality, schedule adherence, turnover readiness, and successful project delivery. The role may be assigned responsibility for a specific Work Package Organization (WPO) or provide leadership across multiple projects and construction teams depending on experience and organizational needs.This position plays a critical role in ensuring construction activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project objectives, while supporting readiness for mechanical completion, turnover, and CQV activities. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Project Managers, contractors, Quality, HSE, CQV, Operations, and Engineering teams to deliver world-class project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide owner-side leadership and oversight of construction activities, contractor performance, productivity, quality, and schedule execution.• Champion site safety culture by supporting and enforcing BeyondZero and LIFE Program expectations and promoting proactive risk identification and mitigation.• Review and support contractor work plans, look-ahead schedules, recovery plans, and execution strategies.• Coordinate interfaces between construction disciplines including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, utilities, automation, CQV, and operations.• Support resolution of field constraints, construction issues, and contractor performance challenges to maintain project progress.• Partner with Quality teams to promote first-time-right execution and support turnover readiness, punch list management, and mechanical completion activities.• Participate in constructability reviews, site logistics planning, and value engineering initiatives to improve project execution.• Lead or participate in daily, weekly, and monthly construction planning and performance review meetings.• Support achievement of project milestones, turnover objectives, quality goals, and startup readiness.Additional Responsibilities for Lead-Level Candidates• Provide leadership and direction to Construction Managers, Quality Leads, and field construction teams across multiple work packages.• Serve as the senior construction authority for assigned projects or the overall program.• Drive program-wide contractor performance management, productivity improvement initiatives, and cross-project coordination.• Establish and lead the construction operating rhythm, including daily planning meetings, weekly look-aheads, and monthly construction reviews.
Qualifications Required
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related discipline preferred.• Minimum 15 years of experience managing construction activities on large capital projects in pharmaceutical, biotech, industrial manufacturing, or other highly regulated environments.• Strong knowledge of construction execution, contractor management, field safety, quality systems, turnover, and project controls.• Experience working in owner, EPCM, or construction management oversight environments.• English requiredPreferred for Lead-Level Consideration• 20+ years of large-scale capital project experience with leadership responsibility across multiple contractors and disciplines.• 10+ years serving in senior construction leadership roles on projects exceeding $500M TIC.• OSHA 30 certification required or preferred; CSP, PMP, CMAA, AGC, or similar professional credentials preferred.
