Controls Engineer

The Opportunity

Ahmed Khan is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to join our team in Detroit, Michigan. In this role, you will develop software and control systems for custom test equipment, transforming customer testing requirements into reliable, functional test systems.

You will be engaged throughout the entire project lifecycle—from understanding test needs, programming and integration, to debugging and final validation of equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, program, test, and debug control systems for custom test machines and equipment.
• Translate customer requirements and test specifications into functional test sequences and machine programs.
• Create operator interfaces for test setup, operation, diagnostics, results, and troubleshooting.
• Integrate control systems with sensors, measurement devices, instrumentation, electrical components, and specialized test hardware.
• Develop logic for test sequencing, data handling, pass/fail evaluation, alarms, and fault management.
• Troubleshoot software, electrical, instrumentation, and machine-level issues during development.
• Collaborate closely with electrical and mechanical engineers throughout design, build, and integration phases.
• Develop and execute tests to evaluate machine functionality, performance, and reliability.
• Analyze test results, identify issues, and implement practical solutions.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and documentation of control systems.

Qualifications

• Strong background in controls engineering and programming.
• Experience with custom test equipment is beneficial but not mandatory.
• Proficient in developing control logic, operator interfaces, and troubleshooting complex systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Compensation

Salary: $85,000 per year

Location: Pontiac, MI (Detroit, Michigan area)

Work Arrangement: On-site (Remote not eligible)
