Deputy Jailer

The Nelson County Correctional Center is accepting applications for a Part-Time Deputy Jailer assigned primarily to Logistics, Cleaning, and Facility Operations.

This position will average approximately 24 hours per week and will work directly with trustee inmates to help maintain the cleanliness, sanitation, organization, and day-to-day operations of the facility.

Primary duties will include supervising trustee inmates while cleaning and disinfecting housing pods, cells, common areas, showers, hallways, and other areas of the facility. The position will also assist with facility logistics, supplies, inventory, laundry, movement of materials, and other operational needs as assigned.

This is a Deputy Jailer position. The employee will be responsible for maintaining security and accountability of inmates under their supervision and must be able to enforce facility rules, follow established policies and procedures, document issues when necessary, and respond appropriately to situations that may arise inside a correctional environment.

Applicants must:
• Be at least 21 years of age
• Possess a valid driver’s license
• Be able to pass required background and pre-employment screening
• Be dependable and able to work with limited supervision
• Be physically capable of performing cleaning, lifting, walking, standing, and other facility-related duties
• Be comfortable working directly with incarcerated individuals in a secure correctional setting
• Have good communication skills and the ability to maintain professionalism and appropriate boundaries
• Be willing to complete all required Deputy Jailer training

Correctional experience is helpful but not required.
