Deputy Jailer

About the role

Justin Hall for Nelson Co. Jailer is accepting applications for a part-time Deputy Jailer at the Nelson County Correctional Center. The position focuses primarily on logistics, cleaning, and facility operations and averages approximately 24 hours per week. The Deputy Jailer works directly with trustee inmates and is responsible for their security and accountability while under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Supervise trustee inmates while cleaning and disinfecting housing pods, cells, common areas, showers, hallways, and other facility areas.
• Assist with facility logistics, supplies, inventory, laundry, movement of materials, and other operational needs as assigned.
• Enforce facility rules, follow established policies and procedures, document issues when necessary, and respond appropriately to situations inside a correctional environment.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Pass required background and pre-employment screening.
• Be dependable and able to work with limited supervision.
• Be physically capable of cleaning, lifting, walking, standing, and performing other facility-related duties.
• Be comfortable working directly with incarcerated individuals in a secure correctional setting.
• Have good communication skills and maintain professionalism and appropriate boundaries.
• Be willing to complete all required Deputy Jailer training.
• Correctional experience is helpful but not required.
