Job description

About the OpportunityOur client, a multi-generational single-family office overseeing a diverse portfolio of more than 300 entities spanning partnerships, trusts, operating companies, charitable vehicles, and real estate, is seeking a Senior Accountant to serve as a primary accountant across multiple entities, including a large affiliated foundation. The role owns day-to-day accounting and cash management for an assigned book of entities, covering reconciliations, capital call calculations, cash flow and liquidity analysis, wire preparation, and tax workpapers. It carries real ownership and visibility, with regular coordination across internal accounting staff, external tax advisors, and legal counsel, and exposure to a broad and sophisticated range of asset classes and financial structures, including venture capital, hedge funds, private equity, and global real estate. The position calls for precision, discretion, and sound judgment in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Job ResponsibilitiesAct as primary accountant for the family office and its large affiliated foundation, overseeing day-to-day bookkeeping, reporting, and compliance needsPerform monthly reconciliations of bank, brokerage, and investment accounts across multiple entitiesRecord and reconcile daily activity, including downloading banking data, resolving discrepancies, and posting transactions to the general ledger with sufficient detail and supporting documentation for internal and external reviewPrepare wire transfer requests with appropriate backup, including invoices, capital call notices, and confirmed wire instructions, routing for signature in accordance with internal controlsPrepare wires for charitable grants and distributions, tracking cumulative giving against the annual minimum distribution requirement and flagging remaining amounts dueCalculate capital calls and member contributions and distributions across partnership and LLC structures, coordinating with fund administrators and internal recordsTrack and follow up on pending fundings to ensure timely receipt and accurate recordingAnalyze cash flow and liquidity across entities to determine funds available for upcoming investments and spending needsEnter and reconcile K-1s and other tax documents in the accounting system, ensuring accuracy for tax workpapersPrepare tax workpapers for partnerships, trusts, and foundationsMaintain organized, audit-ready documentation in shared entity folders, including wire support, invoices, and transaction backupSupport foundation-specific compliance requirements, including grant tracking, minimum distribution rules, and Form 990-PF preparationIdentify and escalate discrepancies, unusual account activity, or process gapsContribute to process improvement initiatives and the standardization of accounting workflows across entitiesAssist with ad hoc requests from the CFO, Controller, accounting manager, and external advisors
Job RequirementsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA a plus6+ years of progressive accounting experience; family office, private foundation, private equity, or high-net-worth accounting background strongly preferredExperience serving as primary or lead accountant for a family office strongly preferredWorking knowledge of partnership accounting concepts, including capital accounts, K-1 allocations, and capital calls and distributionsFamiliarity with private foundation accounting and compliance requirements, including grant accounting and minimum distribution rules, a plusExperience with family office accounting platforms such as Archway preferredProficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formula-driven reconciliation and analysis workbooksStrong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple entities and deadlines simultaneouslyHigh level of discretion and professionalism in handling confidential financial informationExcellent written and verbal communication skills for coordination with internal staff and external advisorsAbility to work independently and take full ownership of assigned entities and workstreams
The annual base salary range is up to $140,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
