GBDX is seeking a Junior Draughtsman to join the engineering team and assist with the design and documentation of fuel storage tanks, dispensing systems, and related site infrastructure. This role offers a valuable opportunity for someone early in their draughting career to gain practical experience in a technical, compliance-focused manufacturing environment.

key responsibilities

• prepare detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings for fuel storage tanks, bunding systems, pipework, and dispensing equipment under supervision of senior engineers or draughtsmen
• convert design concepts and site survey data into accurate fabrication and installation drawings
• assist with bills of materials (BOMs) and specification sheets for manufacturing and procurement
• update and maintain drawing registers, revision control, and technical documentation
• support compliance documentation to ensure designs meet relevant South African and international standards such as SANS and UL 142/2085
• liaise with the workshop and production team to clarify drawing details and resolve fabrication queries
• assist with site measurements and as-built drawing updates when required
• support senior engineers on design calculations and layout planning for new projects

minimum requirements

• national diploma or equivalent qualification in draughting, mechanical engineering, or related field
• proficiency in AutoCAD (2D essential; 3D/Inventor or SolidWorks advantageous)
• basic understanding of mechanical and structural drawing conventions and fabrication processes
• strong attention to detail and accuracy
• good communication skills and ability to work within a team
• willingness to learn tank and vessel design principles and industry compliance standards
• valid driver’s license and reliable transport required for travel to work and sites
