Mechanical Project Engineer

About the role

Helion is looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer to lead capital projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, from concept through startup. The role works with operations, maintenance, contractors, and engineering teams on projects that improve safety, reliability, and production performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical capital projects from planning through commissioning and handoff to operations.
• Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and contractor performance.
• Develop equipment specifications and oversee installation of new manufacturing equipment.
• Coordinate equipment modifications, facility improvements, and process upgrades.
• Support equipment selection, layout, piping, HVAC, utilities, structural interfaces, and material handling systems.
• Review engineering drawings, vendor submittals, and technical documentation.
• Work with maintenance and operations to minimize downtime during installations.
• Drive project execution while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues and implement long-term reliability improvements.
• Coordinate vendors, suppliers, and engineering firms throughout project execution.
• Support equipment startup, commissioning, testing, and performance validation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of project engineering experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or heavy industrial environment.
• Proven experience managing capital projects from design through startup.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including pumps, piping, rotating equipment, conveyors, HVAC, utilities, and process equipment.
