Senior Controller – Geothermal SystemsLocation: Salt Lake City, Utah (Onsite) Department: Finance & Accounting About AlterG ResourcesAlterG Resources is developing next-generation, reliable, carbon-free, baseload power. Our mission is to unlock geothermal resources at scale through innovative drilling, reservoir engineering, and power generation technologies.
Position SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Senior Controller to lead accounting operations, financial controls, and reporting infrastructure as we scale our development, construction, and operating activities. The ideal candidate is a CPA with Big Four public accounting experience and a track record in public-company financial reporting and internal controls, paired with the operational instincts to partner with project development, engineering, and field teams. This is a chance to help build the financial foundation of a fast-growing geothermal platform.
Key Responsibilities Operational AccountingLead accounting activities for geothermal drilling, completions, construction, and power plant operations. · Partner closely with teams from Project Development, Engineering, Drilling, Construction, Supply Chain, and Operations to ensure accurate and timely accounting for project expenditures and commitments, purchase orders, contracts, and change orders.Ensure accurate recording and reporting of project costs, fixed assets, inventory, leases, and operational expenditures. Oversee month-end and year-end close activities related to operations and construction activities. Maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal accounting policies.
Project Cost ControlPartner with project development and construction leadership to establish financial processes throughout the project lifecycle—from early-stage development through construction, commissioning, and commercial operations.Establish appropriate accounting and reporting structures for individual project entities and joint ventures, as applicable.Oversee project cost accounting and reporting, including budgets, commitments, actual expenditures, capitalization, and variance analysis.Work with finance and project teams to improve visibility into project-level financial performance and liquidity requirements.Support financing, investment, tax credit, and other strategic transactions as well as external audits from an accounting and financial reporting perspective.Develop reporting processes that provide management with timely and actionable information regarding project economics and operating performance.Develop cost forecasting models and identify project cost risks and opportunities. Financial Planning & AnalysisSupport annual budgeting and long-range planning for operational functions. Prepare monthly financial packages for executive leadership. Develop KPIs and dashboards focused on project performance, drilling costs, plant operations, and capital efficiency. Assist with cash flow forecasting for large capital projects. Internal ControlsEstablish and maintain strong internal controls over operational financial processes. Improve accounting procedures, workflows, and ERP utilization. Ensure compliance with company policies and audit requirements.
Business PartnershipServe as the finance partner to Operations, Engineering, Drilling, Reservoir Engineering, Procurement, and Project Management teams. Provide financial guidance during project planning, execution, and commissioning. Support commercial evaluations, contract negotiations, and vendor management.
Qualifications RequiredBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance CPA license and 10+ years of progressive accounting or operational finance experience Experience supporting capital-intensive industrial operations Strong understanding of: Project accounting, Cost accounting, & Capital project accounting Fixed assets U.S. GAAP Experience working with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar) Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills Preferred Experience:Geothermal, Oil & Gas, or Renewable Energy Utility-Scale Power Generation Heavy Industrial EPC Construction Infrastructure Development Drilling or Manufacturing operations Owner/operator organizations
