Job description
We are seeking a Project Engineering Lead to provide technical leadership for complex software, hardware, and systems integration projects. This role serves as the primary technical authority for assigned projects, partnering closely with the Project Manager to ensure successful execution from project initiation through deployment. The Project Engineering Lead is responsible for requirements management, systems engineering oversight, technical planning, risk assessment, and cross-functional engineering coordination throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate combines a strong engineering foundation with proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams, translating customer requirements into technical solutions, and driving project execution to meet performance, quality, budget, and schedule objectives.
Key ResponsibilitiesServe as the technical lead for complex software, hardware, and systems integration projects.Lead project startup activities, including requirements definition, scope analysis, technical planning, and execution strategy development.Act as the primary technical counterpart to the Project Manager, providing technical leadership and oversight throughout project execution.Apply systems engineering best practices across all phases of the project lifecycle.Analyze, manage, and maintain system requirements and requirements traceability.Translate customer, stakeholder, and business requirements into actionable engineering tasks and technical deliverables.Gather, evaluate, and document system operational concepts and stakeholder needs.Establish and maintain project technical baselines, including requirements, assumptions, interfaces, and design decisions.Ensure system and subsystem designs satisfy functional and technical requirements through documentation, design reviews, and cross-functional collaboration.Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of project technical solutions across all engineering disciplines.Create and manage engineering plans, including schedules, budgets, resource requirements, and staffing strategies.Identify technical risks and opportunities and develop mitigation strategies in collaboration with project leadership.Monitor engineering performance and support corrective action planning to maintain project objectives.Lead engineering trade studies and evaluations of new technologies and solution approaches.Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure timely issue resolution, proper prioritization, and schedule adherence.Participate in customer-facing technical reviews, engineering presentations, and status meetings.Support business development efforts through technical solution development, compliance assessments, cost estimates, and proposal support.Ensure compliance with company engineering standards, quality processes, and applicable regulatory requirements.Perform other duties as assigned.
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or another STEM-related discipline.5+ years of relevant engineering experience, or an advanced degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.5+ years of experience supporting projects through all phases of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).5+ years of experience in systems engineering, requirements management, technical project leadership, or a related discipline.Experience leading technical aspects of complex engineering or systems integration projects.Experience with requirements management tools such as Jama.Experience with project scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project.Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.Demonstrated ability to lead and influence cross-functional engineering teams.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.Excellent organizational skills with experience in configuration and change management.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Preferred QualificationsExperience with system and network architecture design.Knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and enterprise environments.Experience with relational databases, including Oracle.Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory.Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies.Knowledge of the Systems Engineering V-Model.Familiarity with cybersecurity policies, controls, and best practices.Experience leading multidisciplinary teams supporting software, hardware, networking, and systems integration initiatives.
